For a scented stick like Native's.

Pretty Frank

Baking Soda-Free Deodorant Stick, Coconut Lime, 2.7 oz

If you like Native's stick and want a brand P&G does not own, start here. Like Native's current stick, it skips baking soda and uses a magnesium mineral with coconut oil and shea butter. Compare Native's ingredient page and a current Native stick label.

Pretty Frank's ingredient list uses zinc oxide and magnesium hydroxide in place of baking soda. The scent comes from lime oil and coconut extract, and the maker calls the formula vegan.

Check before choosing

Pretty Frank also sells a Coconut Lime stick with baking soda under a similar name, so check that the label says Baking Soda Free.

Skip it if you want no scent at all, or if citrus oils have bothered your skin. Pretty Frank's Unscented baking-soda-free stick is on the same Amazon page.

For a scented stick that goes on clear.

Megababe

Rosy Pits Daily Deodorant, Fresh Rose, 2.6 oz water-based clear gel stick

Pick this if you want a scented stick that goes on clear. It has no baking soda, and like Native it uses added fragrance for its rose scent.

The maker calls it a water-based solid formula, made without aluminum or baking soda.

Check before choosing

It is a water-based clear gel stick, while Native's is an oil-and-wax stick. It also has the longest ingredient list of the four picks (33 items).

Skip it if you avoid added fragrance or want a short ingredient list. The maker lists fragrance (parfum) and propylene glycol.

For an unscented stick without baking soda.

Humble Brands

Sensitive Skin Simply Unscented Deodorant, 2.5 oz stick

Pick this if scents or baking soda have bothered your skin. It has no baking soda and no added scent.

The maker lists four base ingredients: MCT oil, corn starch, magnesium hydroxide and candelilla wax. The Original version uses baking soda and beeswax, and an unscented label alone does not tell them apart.

Check before choosing

Choose Sensitive Skin. Amazon uses the same Simply Unscented title for the Original version, which has baking soda and beeswax.

Skip it if you want a scent like Native's. This one has no scent at all.

For someone who would rather rub in a cream than swipe a stick.

Little Seed Farm

All Natural Deodorant Cream, Lavender, 2.4 oz glass jar

Pick this if you would rather rub in a cream than swipe a stick. Like Native's current stick, it has no baking soda.

The maker's list has eight ingredients, with magnesium hydroxide in place of baking soda. You rub a pea-sized amount into clean, damp skin with your fingertips.

Check before choosing

It is a cream, not a stick: you scoop it from a glass jar and rub it in. It contains beeswax, so it is not vegan.

Skip it if lavender or eucalyptus oils have bothered your skin. Little Seed Farm also sells an Unscented cream on the same Amazon page.

Follow the evidence

Ownership and formula are separate decisions

P&G's annual report identifies Native as a brand it acquired in 2017. Our Native ownership file covers the corporate history. That history does not establish a harmful formula change or prove that a smaller brand works better.

The four picks above come from smaller brands we list as independent: Pretty Frank, Megababe, Humble Brands and Little Seed Farm. Each review explains how we classify its ownership. A founder story is not an audited shareholder register. We do not treat it as proof of zero outside investment or a guarantee of permanent independence.

Two baking-soda-free formulas from our earlier list, Primally Pure Unscented Baking Soda Free and Fat and the Moon Sensitive Pit Cream, are sold by their makers, not on Amazon.

Why Each & Every is no longer in this shortlist

Our earlier article called Each & Every independently owned with no corporate parent. We cannot substantiate that claim. Its current terms link to P&G's terms and privacy statement, and P&G's patent-marking index lists Each & Every. Those links warrant clarification; they do not establish a particular shareholding percentage or acquisition date. We have removed the independence recommendation while that ownership question remains unresolved.

We also corrected an old claim that PiperWai's cream is baking-soda-free. The original jar's ingredient list includes sodium bicarbonate. This is why comparing a brand name alone is not enough.

Use what works for you

A sensible way to switch

If your current deodorant suits you and ownership is not a concern, keep using it. If you switch, buy one stick or jar first. Move to a 2-pack only after you know the formula suits your skin.

  1. Choose the job

These deodorants address odor. They are not a substitute for an antiperspirant when reducing sweat is the goal.

  2. Read the full ingredient list

“Natural,” “sensitive” and “unscented” are not interchangeable. A baking-soda-free product can still contain fragrance or other ingredients you react to.

  3. Follow the product directions

Stop using a product that causes irritation. A familiar ingredient or short list is not a guarantee against a reaction.

FDA: “hypoallergenic” is not a federal safety standard
  4. Compare the actual unit

A stick, jar, travel size and multipack are different purchases. Check the formula name, size, seller and return terms at the destination.

Questions

Questions before choosing

Which one is most like Native?

Native's current stick is a scented stick made with oils and waxes, with no baking soda. Pretty Frank Coconut Lime is the same kind of product: a scented solid stick with no baking soda, made with coconut oil and shea butter. Megababe Rosy Pits is a scented, water-based clear gel stick. Humble Sensitive is an unscented stick. Little Seed Farm is a cream in a jar. Some older Native sticks still list baking soda, so check your own label.

Is there a cheaper option than Native?

We don't list prices because they change often on Amazon. Compare what you get instead. A Native stick is 2.65 oz. Pretty Frank is 2.7 oz, Megababe Rosy Pits is 2.6 oz, Humble Sensitive is 2.5 oz, and the Little Seed Farm jar is 2.4 oz. Pretty Frank also sells 2-packs of its Unscented, Orange Vanilla, Woodlands and Charcoal Seaside baking-soda-free sticks on the same Amazon page. Try one stick first.

Which alternatives have no baking soda and no added fragrance?

All four picks skip baking soda. Only Humble Sensitive Skin Simply Unscented also has no added scent. Pretty Frank sells an Unscented baking-soda-free stick on the same Amazon page as the Coconut Lime stick above. Humble's Original Simply Unscented has the same Amazon title but contains baking soda, so look for Sensitive Skin on the label.

Is Native still independently owned?

No. Procter & Gamble acquired Native in 2017. Ownership tells you which business you support; it does not establish whether a particular deodorant is right for your skin.

Is PiperWai baking-soda-free?

No. The original 1.7 oz PiperWai cream jar lists sodium bicarbonate, which is baking soda. If you want a cream without baking soda, the Little Seed Farm Lavender cream above uses magnesium hydroxide instead.

Will these stop sweating or work better than Native?

These are deodorants for odor control, not antiperspirants. We have not run comparative wear tests and cannot promise longer protection or a better result. Choose the formula and format you need, then assess how it works for you.
