Our take
Why We Trust This Brand
The mineral lotion itself is top-tier: 25% non-nano zinc oxide as the only active, no chemical filters, and no fragrance or essential oils, backed by an EWG hazard score of 1, from a transparent husband-and-wife family business with no outside money (a clean 10 on independence). We hold ingredients at 9 rather than 10 for two honest reasons: it touts EWG's rating rather than the stricter 'EWG Verified' seal, and in March 2025 the FDA sent Waxhead a warning letter — not about the mineral lotions and sticks reviewed here, but about separately marketing a UV-protection shampoo/body wash as a sunscreen, which isn't an FDA-approved sunscreen dosage form.
What's inside
Ingredients & Safety
The sole active is 25% non-nano, uncoated, French-process zinc oxide, no titanium dioxide and no chemical filters. It is explicitly fragrance- and essential-oil-free, with a very short inactive list (spring water, organic olive oil, organic beeswax) plus added vitamin D3 and non-GMO vitamin E. One INCI database flags the absence of a listed preservative given the water content.
Certifications
We read every line on this label. Nothing here is on our watch or caution list — no synthetic fragrance, no flagged chemicals.
